Blog #2.8 Meet Sara Boulhaoua

Bio: Sara Boulhaoua is a Ph.D. student at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fes, Morocco. In 2021, she earned an MA degree in Translation and Cross-cultural Communication and she’s currently carrying out her PhD research in the same field.

Besides her academic career, Sara is passionate about leadership and community service. She is an active volunteer with several national and international organizations, namely, Tifaout as Co-founder, the ReachSci Society of Cambridge University as a translator, and the Association of Cooperation Tetouan as project manager.

Sara’s current focus is developing Tifaout’s business, which entails selling high-quality natural products from the region of Souss-Massa such as; Argan, Amlou, Saffron, and pure honey so as to financially and educationally support underprivileged girls who are at risk of dropping out of school.

Pre-program reflections: I am tremendously thrilled to finally start my journey as a speaking partner in the Ethnographic Field School. I am keen on meeting and interacting with all the brilliant students coming from the US, getting immersed in the Moroccan culture, and exploring the Argan tree together.  I am very grateful for this opportunity that will allow me to share my culture, interpret, and make new friendships.  I cannot wait for this experience to kick off, and I am looking forward to making the most of it.
