Blog #3.2 Meet Nicolette Lecy

Nicolette Lēcy, Social Life Cycle Assessment Team 2024

Bio: Nicolette Lēcy is a Chinese American adoptee, artist, and anthropologist. She holds a BFA in art education specializing in painting and drawing with history and museum studies minors from South Dakota State University. After earning her K-12 art teaching credential, she worked within multiple museums and higher education departments, creating educational programming and coordinating various events and finished her MA at Cal State, Long Beach in Sociocultural Anthropology, focusing on visual ethnography. While her dissertation research focuses on reclaiming adoptee epistemologies through the expressive arts, her international fieldwork has centered on livelihood and its link to the tourism industry.

Research team in 2024: Nicolette will be leading the Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) team and will act as consultant on the Ethnographic team.

Pre-departure thoughts: I am eagerly looking forward to researching in Morocco through the IRES program. As an aspiring academic, this is an incredible opportunity for my short and long-term academic goals. I am also excited to enhance my international and ethnographic research skills and provide valuable collaboration opportunities in science and engineering. I am also eager to learn more about the argan oil production process firsthand. I am a bit stressed about being away from my toddler for this long but as a student mother I know how important it is to take any opportunity available because so many opportunities in doctoral programs are not as accessible for student parents. Despite this I cannot wait to meet everyone in person and learn and grow with you all.
